The overall scientific objective of the Reaction Engineering Laboratory is to examine applied research methods in Process Engineering within the fields of environment and industry. The laboratory focuses on studying and developing efficient reaction processes by exploring new pathways and developing innovative techniques. The LGR also has the mission to integrate principles of sustainability into research work by seeking more environmentally friendly alternatives, such as the development of techniques for reusing liquid effluents and valorizing by-products and solid waste. Likewise, researchers at the LGR employ a multidisciplinary approach by combining experimental techniques with modeling tools.

The laboratory was established in 2000 and initially comprised four research teams. In 2013, it expanded to include a total of seven teams. In 2022, two teams within the laboratory were merged, resulting in a reduction in the number of teams. Currently, the laboratory consists of six research teams with 89 faculty members, 49 doctoral students, 4 part-time researchers, and 2 laboratory engineers.

    The research activities of the laboratory are structured around six axes:

    • Environment and biotechnology
    • Thermo-energetics of processes
    • Membrane and electrochemical processes for industrial effluent treatment
    • Study and application of separation processes
    • Sustainable decontamination processes
    • Valorization of Algerian flora and environmental preservation
